2012 Starts off with a BANG!
Congratulations to the NSCAA Staff, attendees and presenters at the NSCAA Annual Convention, which was held in downtown Kansas City, Missouri January 11-15th.
The Kansas Youth Soccer Association partnered with the NSCAA for their event and held our own events in conjunction with the convention.
A reception featuring presenter, Taylor Twellman - former MLS New England Revolution Stand Out, who suffered a brain injury during play which ultimately ended his career. Members in attendance found his presentation informative and well timed to the discussions currently surrounding youth sports and concussions. To find out more about concussions and Taylor's iniative to educate, inform and refer through his Foundation go to http://thinktaylor.org/ We will be continuing to work with Taylor and his Foundation to help his message get to our membership.
Our Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday, January 14th at the Hilton Garden Inn - Jack Reardon Convention Center in Kansas City, Kansas - 14 of our 37 Member Affiliates and Associate Members were in attendance, along with all five District Commissioners, our Executive Board, Gunar Harmon, Referee Assignor, Staff and Guests including Region II Director, Bill Podewils and Region II Deputy Director, Bud Manley.
At the AGM the following occured:

District IV Commissioner - Ian Thomson
District V Commissioner - Mark Griffin
The following Bylaw Amendments were approved:
Bylaw 201, Section 2 (A) (1) (a) and (A) (3)
Bylaw 206
The following Constitutional Amendments were approved:
Article VII (with edits which are not included in the original copy to term limits which will be included in the final copy and posted to our website under ABOUT and Bylaws later this week)
On Sunday, January 15th, the Board of Directors held their Annual Meeting and a motion to further clarify the policy regarding Risk Management was made and approved.
Motion: That all Member Affiliate Board Members and any club or team official (club registrar, team manager) have background screening don on the same basis as member coaches, referees and others in the State.
The Board has begun the process of examining best practices of the KSYSA through Strategic Planning and we will continue to keep the membership apprised of activities surrounding that process throughout the year. Members wishing to give input to the Board on this, should contact the District Commissioner in their Region. The office will be posting a complete list of AGM meetings and activities on our website under the "ABOUT" section very soon.
