In a little less than two weeks’ time we will be convening in Boston to discuss the proposed “D” license changes and review the recent changes to the “E” course. As with the Regional Workshops last fall, the time spent in Boston will be invaluable toward making improvements to player and coaching development. We would like to thank Sam Snow and U.S. Youth Soccer for their cooperation in allowing this training to occur during the USYS 2012 Workshop.
As we transition into 2012, a recap of 2011 shows positive steps in improving coaching development. Some of the highlights from 2011 were:
· Release of U.S. Soccer’s Curriculum
· Release of the New “E” license course
· Formation of study groups for each U.S. Soccer license level focused on improving the educational quality
· 150 educators took part in training for the revised “E” license course
· 2000 coaches attended an “A,” “B,” “C,” Youth or GK course
· 60 coaches traveled to Rio de Janeiro and Germany-Holland as part of U.S. Soccer’s International Education Workshops
This January, we had 500 coaches from across the U.S. take part in an “A,” “B” or “C” license course in Arizona, California and Florida. The coaching schools were the kick-off to what should be an even busier year than 2011. With the recent approval of 12 Regional “C” courses, U.S. Soccer plans to host six “A” license courses, nine “B” license courses and 17 “C” license courses across the country. While we prepare for our meeting, reviewing the “E” license course and the recent changes made will be part of the agenda. As a reminder, the following guidelines should be followed when conducting the U.S. Soccer “E” License course:
• As of January 2012, all State Soccer Associations should be teaching the updated “E” license course
· U.S. Soccer Coaching Education Department will not license coaches or recognize licenses issued by Associations if the new protocols issued in January 2012 are not followed by State Associations
• Power point slides are not to be altered or changed
• As reviewed during the “E” workshops, supplemental educational material may be used to enhance the instructors point or objective
· An updated Digital Media Library (DML) file is attached. Please consider contributing any/all quality video by submitting to the U.S. Soccer Coaching Department so that we can all benefit from your resource
• Supplemental material should be reviewed first by the U.S. Soccer Coaching Dept.
• Pre-course assignments should be delivered to “E” coaching candidates by the host organization
• Confirming the completion of candidate assignments and course requirements is the responsibility of the host State staff
• Each State is responsible for producing and issuing the License (certificate) and maintaining a record of “E” Licensed coaches until further notice
Upcoming Events
· This March we will travel with 43 “A” license coaches to Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, as part of our international education workshop. Michael Freitag, CO Director of Coaching, and Carlos Menjivar, Cal North Competitive Director of Coaching, are part of this select group.
