New Board Members to Lead Kansas

New board members were elected at the Kansas Youth Soccer Annual General Meeting held in Wichita, Kansas on February 9, 2013. Joining the Board of Directors are Carol Cleek of Olathe as President, Matt Holstin of Olathe as Treasurer, John Duker of Olathe as District I Commissioner, Chris Erlendson of Saint Marys as Alternate District III Commissioner, and Jeff Dinkel of Hays as District V Commissioner.  

Cleek has been a critical care registered nurse for the last 27 years and is the Director of Emergency and Critical Care Services at the University of Kansas Hospital. She has served as a board member for Kansas Rush for eight years, most recently as the club president and also as a board member for Heartland Soccer Association for two years. She served as the team manager for her son's competitive team for eight years. She is looking forward to creating an environment where soccer shines brightly and meets the developmental needs of all levels of players regardless of age, gender, and ability.

Holstin is the owner and operator of M&A Designs, Inc., a company specializing in embroidery, screen printing, promotional products, and consulting. This last year he was the Kansas Youth Soccer District I Commissioner and has been a board member for Kansas Rush for the last two years. He has served as a board member for the Emporia State University Alumni Association for 10 years, president of the ESU Alumni, chair of the Olathe CVB, and president of his neighborhood homes association.

Duker is the current Director of Soccer Operations for Kansas City Soccer Club and the vice president of Kansas Premier Soccer League. He was born in Ghana West Africa and moved to the United State at age 12. He played his youth soccer for KC Legends.  Playing all four years for the Missouri State Bears, he helped the team win two conference championships and go to two NCAA Division I tournaments. He has 14 years of coaching experience and has had teams finish as Kansas State Cup semi-finalists in 2010 and 2012, finalists in 2009 and 2011, and champions in 2008. He community involvement includes working with Shadow Buddies, Boys and Girls Club of Greater KC, Operation Breakthrough, Big Brother of KC and serving lunch at City Union Mission.

Many thanks go out to those whose terms on the Kansas Youth Soccer Board of Directors have ended this year for their time, commitment, and service: Alan Blinzler of Overland Park (Past President), Phil Jorgenson of Overland Park (Treasurer), David Ouderkirk of Salina (Alternate District III Commissioner),and Mark Griffin of Hays (District V Commissioner).

Special thanks to Jose Zarate of Kansas City who has been President this last term, preceded by terms as Vice President of Recreation. Zarate will stay on the Kansas Youth Soccer Board as Past President.
