September marks eighth annual Youth Soccer Month celebration

The fun continues this September as US Youth Soccer, the nation's largest youth sports association, announces the eighth annual national Youth Soccer Month – "Celebrating Soccer in America".

"US Youth Soccer looks forward each year to spearheading the Youth Soccer Month initiative. We take great pride in promoting the benefits of playing this wonderful sport including fun, family, friendship and fitness," said John Sutter, president of US Youth Soccer. "More American children play organized soccer than any other sport. This celebration furthers US Youth Soccer's mission to foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of America's youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition." Awards Gala held in conjunction with annual convention

FRISCO, Texas (Sept. 1, 2010) – Early registration opens today for the 2011 US Youth Soccer Workshop, to be held Feb. 24-26 at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Ky. Over 2,000 soccer coaches, administrators, referees and enthusiasts are expected at the organization's annual convention.

Registrants can save 50 percent ($100)  by registering before Dec. 15.

The event, the largest of its kind for youth sports in North America, features more than 90 educational workshops and demonstrations, including field demonstrations for coaches. In addition to the educational opportunities, the convention features an exhibit hall. The exhibit hall grand opening is Thursday, Feb. 24 from 6-8 p.m. The hall is open Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Over 100 companies are expected, featuring the latest soccer equipment, technology, apparel, fundraising ideas and more.
 
Friday evening is highlighted with the US Youth Soccer Awards Gala. The Gala will showcase successes of the past year and over a lifetime. In addition to inducting the fourth class of the US Youth Soccer Hall of Fame, the association will present awards for Recreation and Competitive Coach of the Year (boys and girls), the Dr. Thomas Fleck Award for Excellence in Coaching Education, Administrator and Volunteer of the Year, TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year, Goal and Save of the Year, and Young Referee of the Year (male and female).
 
In addition to learning from leading clinicians in the areas of coaching and player development, the event will include topics including running a state league, grant writing, criminal hearings and player safety. Registrants will also hear the latest in social networking, marketing for membership growth, Small-Sided Games, youth fitness, club development and referee retention and analysis of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
       
Go to USYouthSoccer.org/Workshop to register now through Dec. 15 and save 50 percent. Prices increase to $150 from Dec. 16-Jan. 31, and then to $200 from Feb. 1-15 when online registration ends. After Feb. 15, registration is only available onsite Feb. 24-26.

Full registration fee includes entry to all sessions, US Youth Soccer Awards Gala, President's Reception and exhibit hall. Registration will not include hotel room reservation; however, US Youth Soccer has secured room blocks for hotels in close proximity to the convention.

The annual convention is the place for those involved in youth soccer.

New board members elected at 2010 US Youth Soccer AGM

New president, secretary and member at large named

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (July 26, 2010)
– The US Youth Soccer membership recently elected new board members at the Annual General Meeting at Overland Park Sheraton in Overland Park, Kan.

John Sutter, former US Youth Soccer member at large, is the new president. Alan Blinzler, president of Kansas State Youth Soccer Association, was elected secretary. John Murphy, former chairman of the board of California Youth Soccer Association-North, is the new member at large.

Larry Monaco maintains a seat on the board of directors as immediate past president. Monaco retired after serving as president for the past four years.

OLATHE, Kan. (July 26, 2010) – Jose Zarate of the KCK Soccer Association has become the new Kansas Youth Soccer President with the election of Alan Blinzler to the US Youth Soccer Board of Directors in the position of Secretary.

Referee Risk Management and Background Checks

Effective July 1, 2009, all referees who are 18-years-old or older during a seasonal year that will be working Kansas Youth Soccer sanctioned leagues, tournaments or friendly games must complete a Referee Online Disclosure Form and submit a completed Referee Risk Management Form with $10 annual fee to Kansas Youth Soccer. 

All referees who are 18 and above will have a mandatory background check performed.  Referees will NOT be permitted to work any Kansas Youth Soccer event if he or she has not completed an Online Disclosure and been approved by Risk Management.

If you are registered as a coach in one of Kansas Youth Soccer Affiliate Member Leagues for the 2009-10 seasonal year, the Affiliate Member League will be invoiced the $10 annual coach fee which will be applied toward the background check.

KSYSA RULE 5.2.12 - SUSPENSIONS/SEND OFFS

Any coach who is ejected from any competition shall remain under suspension until the penalty is served with the team the coach was coaching when ejected; provided, however, the coach is not charged with referee assault or abuse, in which case USSF policies 531-9 and 531-10 shall apply.  If after seven (7) days and the penalty has not been served, the coach may be allowed to coach other teams to which (s)he was rostered at the time of the ejection provided payment of any associated fines has been satisfied.  In addition, for the first ejection in any seasonal year the coach shall be assessed a fine of not less than Seventy Five Dollars ($75.00) to be collected by the competition authorities and paid to KSYSA; for a second ejection in any seasonal year  the fine shall increase to an amount not less than One Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($150.00) to be collected by the competition authorities and paid to KSYSA; and, for a third and any additional ejection(s) in any seasonal year  the fine shall increase to an amount not less than Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00) to be collected by the competition authorities and paid to KSYSA.  A failure to pay the fine within seven days of the ejection shall result in the coach remaining under suspension until such time as the fine is paid.  Nothing in this rule precludes the competition authority from imposing additional penalties and fines beyond those provided by this Rule (Amended November 11, 2007).
