A recent online article by Andi Atwater of the Wichita Eagle (2/21/12) reports on the seriousness of concussions in youth sports and the new law which was passed in 2011. The CDC's Program "Heads Up Concussions in Youth Sports" and the "Think Taylor" Foundation are also targeting this important health issue amongst student athletes.

Pat Monaghen, (NEU, Shawnee) was named as the 2011 National Volunteer of the Year by the US Youth Soccer Association, Friday, February 17th during the Awards Gala presentations. Pat was one of five nominees from across the United States in the running for this honor.

In a little less than two weeks’ time we will be convening in Boston to discuss the proposed “D” license changes and review the recent changes to the “E” course. As with the Regional Workshops last fall, the time spent in Boston will be invaluable toward making improvements to player and coaching development. We would like to thank Sam Snow and U.S. Youth Soccer for their cooperation in allowing this training to occur during the USYS 2012 Workshop.

Teams wishing to participate in KSYSA State Tournaments which include the Jr State Championships, May 11-13th; President's Cup, May 25-28th and State Cup, May 30-June 8th can begin registering their teams on February 14th. There is an early bird discount through February 29th and a late fee for any teams registering after April 1st.
